About the Department

SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.

What is the Role?

SSE Enterprise are aiming to grow significantly over the next 5 years and as such we have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee or HV Engineer to join our team.

Reporting into the HV manager, you'll be responsible for identify and develop sustainable HV business opportunities, focusing on new and existing HV contract customers. This will see you planning and monitoring all types of construction and maintenance work on HV/LV networks, plant and equipment and prepare accurate estimates of net costs to enable Contract Engineers/HV Managers to develop commercial pricing. You'll also represent SSE Contracting at local level, ensuring all enquiries are handled in an appropriate manner while monitoring direct staff and contractors.

As well as this, you'll also take to lead in promoting business development within the team by both sourcing new and developing existing business contacts to generate a constant flow of profitable leads. You'll then provide estimates to contribute to the successful tendering of these business opportunities.

What Do I Need?

To be successful in this role, you'll be able to communicate clearly and effectively and should have both excellent people management skills and attention to detail. With a proven track record in design, construction and operation of electrical plant and equipment up to 33kV, you'll have sound HV and LV electrical knowledge, and be familiar with all Suspension of Operational Practice, Dangerous Incident Notifications and National Defect Reports. You'll also need an electrical background encompassing a range of contracting activities and be able to demonstrate commercial acumen and enthusiasm to help grow our business.

You'll also be able to identify, design, quote and manage HV contracts and will be able to negotiate with clients to secure profitable business. You'll be able to apply financial and budgetary controls so that maximum profit is received, whilst managing quality, safety and planning of the work. You'll also have a working knowledge of the CDM regulations, in addition to general office applications including MS Project. Previous SAP experience would be beneficial, but not essential.

A full UK driving licence is vital for this role as well as a passion for safety and the ability to work well in a team as well as independently.
