About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
SHE Transmission's core purpose is to provide the energy people need in a reliable and sustainable way. As part of the Transmission business, SHE Transmission is responsible for delivering a significant number of network improvements and windfarm connection projects within the Highland region. We are currently looking for 2 trainee Field Unit Engineers for our operations team to support these major investments.
As a trainee you will be working with the Highland Field Unit helping to deliver SSE's operations programme on our transmission networks from Skye to Caithness and the Western Isles. This is a key role in helping to build the future network for SSE by developing new overhead lines and substation infrastructure. You'll be involved in major construction project delivery, outage management, contractor liaison, and on-site field unit support. Safety is our number one priority, ensuring that all operational works are carried out to the highest standards. It would be expected that you would achieve Senior Authorised Person within 2-3 years.
What do I need?
To be considered for this opportunity, you will be familiar with construction health and safety requirements, such as CDM Regulations, and competent using Microsoft Windows, Outlook and Office applications. A background in HV electrical transmission is beneficial.
As a confident communicator, you will be self-motivated, flexible in your approach and able to complete tasks within defined timescales.
You must be willing to work away from your base location when required and a full UK driving license is essential. You will have an HNC as a minimum in electrical or power system engineering.
