SSE Thermal Energy
Duration: 12 weeks commencing June 2020
Location: Glasgow, Perth, Ferrybridge, Dublin, Atwick, Aldborough
Salary: circa £17,500 pro rata/€24,050 Dublin pro rata
Our vision is to become the leading generator of flexible thermal energy in a low-carbon world. Flexible and efficient thermal generation will play a critical role in the transition to a low-carbon economy, providing reliable capacity at scale in response to market changes and events. At SSE, our power stations and gas storage facilities complement our renewables assets, ensuring a robust electricity system and safeguarding customers power supplies.
What is the role?
Our summer placement opportunities offer you the opportunity not only to play a part in achieving our goals, but to grow with us as well. As we look to finding better, more efficient and affordable ways of producing energy, there is huge scope for you to make a real contribution at SSE. You will work with us to turn data into information; giving us an insight into the health of our generation fleet or future projects. This could be analysing the operability, maintainability or modelling performance of critical electrical, mechanical or civil assets at our thermal power stations.
What do I need?
We have opportunities within our Thermal Energy business for Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, Civil, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering undergraduates. Candidates should be entering their third year (or above) of university and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long term future with us. You'll need a good understanding of power generation systems, an analytical approach and a passion for finding value in data. The ability to interpret numerical and contractual data is paramount as well as effective communication of your conclusions. It's important that you are flexible, self motivated and confident in your decision making. Interpersonal skills are vital as you will be responsible for representing the business at all levels and with various internal and external stakeholders.
We all have different skills here at SSE and that is what makes us stand out. We all take pride in a job well done and share the belief that an inclusive culture is key to our success and vision for the future. Above all, safety is at the heart of everything we do at SSE and we live by the mantra 'if it is not safe, we don't do it. SSE is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Were committed to ensuring we offer our people a great place to work, with competitive salary, contributory pension plan and benefits package.
