What is the Role?
The Thermal Generation Commercial team currently has a vacancy for an individual with an intimate knowledge of the Irish energy markets, the options available to hedge Thermal power plants, DS3 service provision and how the Capacity Mechanism operates. The successful candidate will set strategy for the operation of Thermal Generations entire portfolio of assets in Ireland and working closely with EPM to insure they secure access to market in the most commercially rewarding manner. In advance of delivery this individual will be responsible for having assessed opportunities to lock in revenue for each asset through transactional activity in the forward markets or through structured arrangements they have agreed with SSE's retail businesses in Ireland. This role will also require the individual to support asset owners in identifying optimal periods to undertake planned maintenance and in preparing budget production plans. You will also manage the relationship with the TSO on behalf of the Ireland Thermal Business.
The role of Commercial Manager will provide you with responsibility to review and determine the most appropriate asset hedging practices. As a subject matter expert you will be expected to identify emerging opportunities via new grid services, and insure all relevant assets are in a position to compete. You will determine the most appropriate commercial instruments to secure value and track the P&L benefit as each approach matures. You will be in weekly contact with EPM and the asset owners to ensure each assets production plan compliments the hedging activity, emerging restrictions and any budgeted limits on plant activity.
What Do I Need?
To be successful in this role you will have developed interpersonal, communication, problem solving and negotiation skills. Your ability to build relationships will ensure you forge strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The ability to prioritise tasks and being able to meet demanding deadlines is essential.
You will be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline with an advanced knowledge of I-SEM, hedging practices, ideally Plexos, DS3 services and Capacity Auction rules. You will have a complete knowledge of the Irish power markets and a thorough grasp of power plant economics.
