About the Department
SSE Renewables (SSER) is the UK and Irelands leading renewable energy company. Our aim is to be the largest and most efficient developer of onshore and offshore wind in the UK and Ireland. We drive new growth by identifying, developing, building and operating high quality assets in GB, Ireland and internationally. In order to contribute to a low carbon future we have committed to treble our current Renewables output by 2030.
Within SSER, the Engineering & Innovation Centre of Excellence plays a significant role in the delivery of SSE's multi £billion investment programme and operation of 4GW of Renewable generation capacity. We provide expertise across a wide range of engineering and technical disciplines to ensure best practice project delivery and asset management whilst achieving a competitive advantage through value engineering and innovation.
Reporting to the Technology Manager, the Technology Engineer has responsibility to:
-Provide technical input to conceptual stage feasibility studies, business opportunity assessments and technology reviews;
-Identify problems and opportunities that can be addressed through the application of technology to improve the competitiveness of SSERs projects and operational assets;
-Establish excellent working relations with other departments at all levels within SSER to enable effective collaboration;
-Deliver on commitments;
-Scope, co-ordinate and deliver benefit from joint industry projects, R&D projects and academic and industrial engagement;
-Deliver future value by initiating, leading, and/ or delivering early stage projects with internal and external stakeholders;
-Read the energy contest to track technology and market trends which offer future value opportunities or risk of disruption to SSERs portfolio of assets.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
-Experience of evaluating technical concepts and proposals;
-Experience in activities relating to technology development and deployment;
-Strong technical capabilities in a discipline of relevance to the offshore wind industry;
-Capability to build and maintain strong working relationships;
-A strong understanding of the commercial context and implications of engineering decisions and activities;
-Confidence in dealing with the significant ambiguity and uncertainty inherent in early stage concepts and projects;
-The ability to identify inherent assumptions, test and challenge their validity;
-Experience of managing projects.
You may also have:
-Previous experience in the renewable energy sector;
-Understanding of energy markets and ancillary services.
