About our role:
Due to expansion of the Rail business, we are now looking for a Technician based at Surbiton Rail Station to help oversee the Wessex Area assets on Stations and Network Rail buildings.
In this role you will look after a team of operatives/sub-contractors who will carry out maintenance and minor works in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the current Construction Industry Safety Regulations and SSE policies and procedures. You will be expected to be the 'on call' Supervisor whilst occasionally having to attend out of hours call outs when required.
You'll be responsible for the efficient and profitable use of labour resources to ensure satisfactory progress is maintained. To continually review priorities and deadlines and consult with your Responsible Engineer when applicable, in order to formulate action plans. To deliver cost effective solutions and client satisfaction.
You'll ensure that all works undertaken comply with the appropriate British Standards and/or any project specific specification or instructions. Act as the main SSER site contact for the client, the clients representative, and other trades. You may also be required to represent SSER at site progress, reviews and other meetings where applicable.
In addition, you'll ensure that all Apprentices and other Trainees receive adequate and varied on job training. Providing regular reports to the relevant Responsible Engineer on the progress of individual trainees. Ensure all job documentation is completed correctly, in accordance with SSERs Quality Procedures and ensure the timely purchasing and delivery of materials and equipment to site or for pick up.
You'll ensure materials handling is in line with SSERs Quality Procedures, and that wastage is kept to a minimum and that all vehicles, plant and equipment are used and maintained in a satisfactory manner. You will also be responsible for making sure any work variations or extras are recorded and communicated to your Responsible Engineer at regular intervals to ensure timely submission to the client.
Experience within the railway environment will be an advantage but is not essential as Personal Track Safety (PTS) training can be provided. We would also carry out a medical assessment prior to you starting. Due to the nature of our work on call is part of this position and you may be required to work away from home on occasions (requiring overnight stays).
Applicants must have completed a Craft Apprenticeship or equivalent and obtained a pass in City and Guilds 2361 or equivalent and have a good working knowledge of the 17/18th Edition: Wiring Regulations.
You'll be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of electrical systems and operating principles.
Preferably you would hold an SMSTS certificate or similar, although training can be provided for this. Applicants must have a clean UK driving licence.
