Our Procurement and Commercial team are responsible for helping the business to procure services and materials in a timely and cost-effective way. We work right across the SSE Group, ensuring our businesses gets the best possible service and value from our supplier network, as well as ensuring all service providers are compliant and continue to meet contractual obligations and business need.
What is the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Strategic Procurement Officer to work in the Infrastructure Category Team working principally within the categories of Substation, Cabling and Overhead Line in support of our Networks Transmission and Distribution businesses and wider Group companies. These roles will cover a variety of Works, Goods and Services.
The Strategic Procurement Officer is responsible for sourcing the supply of goods, works and services in accordance with all internal policies and procedures and external legislation, including EU Procurement Legislation. They will support the Category Manager in the development of standard and complex contracting and sourcing strategies to ensure SSE group requirements are delivered in these category areas.
The Strategic Procurement Officer will conduct strategic sourcing events, planning and managing all elements of the sourcing process from end to end, engaging stakeholders and suppliers throughout the process. This will include drafting and reviewing special contractual terms, conducting tender negotiations to ensure all costs, exclusions and deviations to terms or scope are known/understood and the appropriate risk allocation has been made in accordance with the Category Management Plan / Procurement Strategy. Complete commercial analysis of tender submissions and making appropriate award recommendations.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you must be an experienced Strategic Procurement Officer having completed high value complex tenders with a track record of procurement experience within a similar environment, including experience of using NEC Engineering & Construction Contract or equivalent construction forms of contract and an excellent understanding of construction and commercial risks. You will have the following skills and experience:
- Broad knowledge of contracts with the ability to draft special terms for goods, work and services, dispute procedures, with knowledge of relevant statutory and legal provisions
- Be accomplished in negotiating costs and terms & conditions
- Be enthusiastic with excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills
- Be comfortable communicating at various levels within the business including presentation skills,
- Be self-motivated with high self-belief and confidence to challenge the norm and think creatively
- Be commercially astute
- Have strong problem solving skills
- Be comfortable working to deadlines, being able to change priorities whilst managing your time effectively.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills are essential.
