About the Department
The drive to decarbonisation is set to drastically alter the way in which energy systems are managed. The behavioural and environmental challenges mean that society needs new, innovative solutions, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, heat networks, community energy and energy storage plus the markets to make these solutions financeable.
This change is altering the role of distribution electrical networks, meaning more focus on local energy systems, and the change in behaviour of consumers to prosumers when it comes to relationships with energy systems. As the distribution network we are at the forefront of developing relationships with those connected to the network and involving communities in the development of decarbonisation strategies.
The role will focus on the Oxfordshire Programme, demonstrating the value of flexibility in a local setting, while systematically applying knowledge, learning and methods from LEO (Local Energy Oxford) to the core business programmes.
The main purpose of this role is to establish and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders to influence behaviour, manage perceptions and create a mutual understanding to support the development and operation of flexibility within the network.
Responsible for the planning, design and delivery of stakeholder engagement programmes, you'll undertake activities across the business to develop training, research, governance, and effective reporting of stakeholder engagement for the transition to Distribution Operations.
The Stakeholder Engagement Manager will represent the Networks business with stakeholders and industry specialist groups and use this insight to provide detailed reporting and insight to senior managers.
Your Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you'll have a strong understanding of the energy sector and working knowledge of the regulation of electricity networks. Youll have experience in gaining stakeholder and customer insight and interpreting this to influence key decision makers.
With the ability to speak publicly in front of large audiences with credibility, you'll have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Whilst having experience in customer or stakeholder engagement, planning and delivery, you'll have the ability to develop and manage healthy relationships in challenging business circumstances. Having the ability to build and manage relationships is key, and to be able to lead and manage cross functional project teams , covering multiple challenges and objectives.
Personally, you'll be self-motivated with a can-do attitude and positive influencing skills with the ability to find answers within a diverse engineering-focused organisation. Using initiative, you'll think strategically and deliver work on time and in budget. You'll maintain focus during significant periods of organisational change.
At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.
