Slough Heat and Power (SHP) provides electrical power to the Slough Trading Estate by means of a private electrical power network. It owns and operates several primary and secondary substations including 33kV, 11kV and LV assets.
What is the Role
The Enterprise & SHP Control Room will manage the Operations & Maintenance of Slough Heat & Power as well as Private User HV/EHV networks across the UK.
Slough Heat and Power (SHP) provides electrical power to the Slough Trading Estate by means of a private electrical power network. It owns and operates several primary and secondary substations including 33kV, 11kV and LV assets. In addition, currently there are ~1000 customer networks under Enterprise control.
This role will support the operation of Enterprise and SHP Control Room, operational planning, network monitoring, running and switching operations as required for the existing network and its development plans and provide same services for customer driven new connection projects and network expansion in the SHP estate and SSE Enterprise.
As part of the control room team, the person will be responsible for the network safe operation and operational planning, while also contribute to the investment program to improve the heath index and network safety and deliver the growth strategy for the network.
The role will have responsibility of ensuring that electrical power distribution safety standards for EHV, HV and LV networks are adhered to, and support with the maintenance and development of processes and procedures for the control room and network safety operations to ensure that the network remains fully complaint with the technical, statutory and regulatory requirements and safety rules.
The role will include review of outage plans and switching schedules for new connection projects, diversions and network alternations as well as the active engagement with the project teams and SAPs throughout the project delivery for the execution of the outage plans.
As part of the role, the person is expected is to attend the control room during business hours and be available on stand-by as required. The person may be required to work in a full or part-shift pattern as required.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, you have will demonstrable knowledge of electrical power operation of EHV, HV and LV networks and associated assets combined with solid experience assessing network security, availability, performance and capabilities.
You will have previous experience as a Control Engineer and Senior Authorised Person (SAP) with significant operational practice in a control room and in the field including preparation of outage schedules.
A track record of fault restoration coordination of field engineers and SAPs and switching operations is also desirable and a Qualification in Electrical engineering (Degree, HNC) or with solid industry experience equivalent.
You should have previously used modelling/operating electrical networks using network control room software and SCADA systems, power system modelling, analysis and clear presentation of results by using spreadsheets.
With an excellent attention to detail, you will have the ability to identify issues or anomalies over sources of data, make decisions and solve problems with minimal input or support.
Strong communications skills are necessary to allow you to liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
