Job Role Summary


We are currently seeking candidates to join our Laboratory Technician Department at Fawley Refinery and Chemical Plant. The largest refinery in the UK, Fawley is a combined refining, lubricants and chemicals manufacturing site which is located on the south coast of England, on the edge of the New Forest National Park.

Job Role Responsibilities


Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor and based in the Technical Department, Laboratory Technicians provide a service to the Fawley Site by measuring and reporting on the quality of finished products, plant streams and imports.

  • Providing data of the highest integrity to comply with the requirements of the Data Integrity Assurance Framework
  • Supporting laboratory compliance within ExxonMobil‘s Quality Practices and Guidelines
  • Maintaining a thorough knowledge of the testing techniques and test equipment in assigned areas
  • Performing testing and reporting duties in accordance with laid down procedures
  • Liaising with customers regarding laboratory Certificate of Quality queries
  • Investigating unusual results and shipping problems


The role is based at our Fawley site, near Southampton, which is the largest and most technically complex refining and petrochemical facility in the UK. There are two laboratories at the Fawley site, providing a 24/7 service.





Expected Level of Proficiency


  • General laboratory testing experience (experience in a refinery would be advantageous)


  • A Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) degree in Chemistry, or a related scientific or engineering subject


  • Have strong IT skills, specifically being an experienced and competent user of Microsoft Office – including Excel and Word
  • Have a broad range of personal effectiveness and leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate and influence business decisions in a team environment.
