Role Outline

My client is looking for a Service Sales Manager to join its market leading Power Grids Department.

This is a very exciting and unique opportunity. The client sells service packages / upgrades / modernidation etc to the power grid automation sector. The company's Power Grids division is a market leader in the UK and indeed Globally.

In the main you will be selling a wide variety of services and solutions from a spare part at 2k to a whole solution at 2 M. Service agreements, refits, retrofits and so on.

The position will be Home based but will report to the Staffordshire Office. You will need to have plenty of solid experience in a sales environment, ideally from a solution sales background in the substation sector.

You will be developing business all the time and realistically be expected to be on the road meeting prospects 3 - 4 days a week.

The pipeline is in the main, smaller projects from 10k - 250k in high volume however there can be large projects once or twice a year exceeding 1M.

You need exceptional communication skills as you will be building relationships with targeted accounts. For around 80 % of the time you will need to be identifying and targeting new business to aid the growth of the department.

Overall the candidate needs to be outgoing and personable along with having a knowledge of substation service and experience in a similar role with tenacity and the drive to get stuck in and create a very rewarding future.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Selling services to customers, focusing on volume, mix and profitability targets
    Owns, manages and drives sales pipeline for Service, leads capture teams where necessary to ensure targets in line with the sales team strategy manages and develops appropriate relationships with customers and key accounts.
  • Understanding of full product/systems/services offering, and align to provide a solution.
  • Ensures efficient marketing activities and value proposition to customers.
  • Stay up to date with all admin duties.
  • Prepares offers in coordination with the bid and proposal department and/or the Marketing Manager.
  • Ensures appropriate technical and financial aspects of offers, including prices and trading conditions.
  • Develop, implement and manage a sales plan to demonstrate the achievement of future sales targets.


  • HND / HNC or Degree in a related technical discipline
  • Proven track record in selling industrial service and support contracts
  • Willingness to travel
  • Competence in products, applications, markets and competition
  • Creative thinker with commercial focus, good technical understanding and results orientation
  • Presentation Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills
  • Positive, outgoing individual, Proven ability to engage clients over the phone and face to face
