As a trusted business partner that helps SSE lead in a low carbon world, we are proud of our service. Working for SSE IT is all about equipping SSE for now and the future.
What is the Role
As a Senior Solution Architect, you'll be responsible for delivering Solution Architectures in line with business requirements, organisation and industry standards, and ensure these maintain integrity within the context of the relevant programme architecture.
A key part of your role will be to provide direction, guidance and solution validation, ensuring adherence to Architecture and Design standards and the Enterprise/Target Architecture, and to establish strong relationships with stakeholders by effectively managing expectations and inspiring confidence in delivery. You'll also perform a design authority role on our Digital portfolio, ensuring the detailed designs and solutions align to the Solution Architecture, managing and resolving any design issues as they arise.
What do I need?
Rather than a solely technical view, you'll deliver fully-rounded Digital IT solution architectures for the business. This should be based on experience of a diverse range of technologies with the ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies. You'll have a strong technical background in analysis and design, and preferably have experience in Digital and data management roles.
You'll demonstrate proven ability and experience in working with stakeholders at all levels, translating business needs into solution architecture requirements and options. Your approach to balancing long-term (strategic) and short-term implications of proposals and outcomes, will be pragmatic and you'll have significant experience in developing solution architectures and exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments. You'll find motivation not only in providing quality architectural input but also in supporting a large organisation on a journey to become lean, agile and providing cutting edge services to its customers.
You'll already have experience applying architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and SAFe, and working in a structured and methodical way including building and maintaining architecture baselines.
Your ability to establish strong and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including business sponsors, Business Transformation Leads, Relationship Managers and onshore and offshore delivery teams, is essential to this role. In particular:
- You can partner with product, engineering and business teams to provide technical direction and solutions for a range of digital products
- You bring a product mindset and technical leadership in the production of technical solution designs, high quality functional specifications and other technical/documentation to ensure high quality customer experiences.
- You are a key contributor to the Technology team, and ensure strong partnership across the functions (Engineering, Delivery, Infrastructure, Support, Operations)
You'll have a broad range of experience in IT architecture ideally with a software delivery lifecycle background, and previous participation in, or running of, IT governance functions. You will have engaged in agile contexts and will have experience of interacting with design/engineering teams at the highest level. You'll be familiar with Event Driven Architectures and concrete understanding of:
- Architecting applications with appropriate modern architectural patterns including Serverless, CQRS, Event Driven Services, Microservices, Circuit Breaker, etc
- Implement Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery structures where appropriate
- Data modelling and data architecture design and implementation,
- Documentation of solution (i.e. design patterns, application architecture, data modelling, etc.)
- Cloud frameworks, structures and components
- You will have had exposure to multiple, diverse technologies, and you will experience of delivering solutions through cloud environments.
