It is a very exciting time to join SSEN Transmission as we play our critical role in creating a net-zero power system through investing in the right way in our transmission network. At SSEN Transmission we are building a network for net zero. We expect more than a threefold increase in generation from the current levels to 30GW by 2030 and more beyond that. At the same time, we will play our role in kick-starting the green recovery that seeks to build a more inclusive, stronger and resilient UK economy.

What is the Role?

The SSEN Transmission Regulation team has an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Regulation Analyst. This position operates in an environment where changes to regulatory policy have a significant impact on network operations and drive the performance of the business.

Your primary responsibility in the role of Senior Regulation Analyst is to lead on preparing recommendations on regulatory policy. This will involve working closely with your SSEN Transmission colleagues to provide qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform our regulatory policy positions across a wide range of areas, identify and resolve regulatory issues, and provide guidance on regulatory submissions and business practices.

You will be at the forefront of helping implement our ambitious £9bn Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) Plan and delivery of our £2bn+ RIIO-T2 Business Plan through the fast-changing energy environment, as we race to net zero. At the same time, you will help shape the next RIIO price control - RIIO-T3 which will commence in 2026. RIIO stands for "Revenue = Incentives + Innovation + Outputs" and is the framework applied by Ofgem, the industry regulator, to ensure monopoly networks like SSEN Transmission provide a safe and reliable network in a sustainable way at a fair price for consumers.

What do I need?

This role of Senior Regulation Analyst is a crucial role within our business and requires candidates with a background in a similar analytical/policy role within a corporate environment. You should have a demonstrable understanding of the energy industry and/or energy regulation gained from experience. We would expect at least 2-3 years relevant experience in a similar role at a regulator, regulated company or in consulting.

As a proven leader, you will be responsible for managing work in a cross functional projects team in a matrix environment whereby you will coach and develop other team members. As such, you will have positive influencing skills with the ability to find answers within a diverse engineering-focused organisation.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- A passion for the delivery of net zero targets and delivering outcomes in a sustainable way.

- Quantitative and qualitative analytical capability, crucially with ability to use this information to inform policy decisions.

- Rigorous and thorough approach in carrying out research and analysis, seeking multiple data sources and opinions, and from this establishing well-reasoned conclusions, proposals and recommendations.

- Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements through an ability to interpret information, notice discrepancies/inconsistencies, determine their significance/risk, and advise on resolution.

- Ability to negotiate with key stakeholders to positively assist in a successful outcome for SSEN Transmission.

- Well-developed communication skills with the ability to present (written and verbal) to internal and external audiences on critical content, for example Ofgem consultations.
