SSE Enterprise comprises three companies: Contracting, Telecoms and Distributed Energy. SSE Enterprise Utilities is part of the Distributed Energy business of SSE plc. Distributed Energy offers a full range of services which contribute to the development of smart cities and smart places, in both public and private sectors. SSE Enterprise Telecoms operates a 13,700km private telecoms network, with 265 Points of Presence and connectivity to over 80 commercial data centres that span the UK. With its extensive telecoms engineering experience, the company provides commercial security with unrivalled in-house engineering resource to Service Providers, Large Enterprises and the Public Sector providing a competitive range of leading-edge Ethernet, Cloud Connect, Optical Networking and Co-location services.
What is the Role?
The Senior Network Designer is based within optical design which forms part of the Network Technology team with responsibility for the co-ordination, architecture and design of the Optical Networks. You will be the design authority when interacting with other parts of the SSE Enterprise Telecoms business and be responsible for the expansion and general design activities of the existing Optical Networks (DWDM/WDM). You will also be a subject matter expert for the Optical networks, developing relationships with the key suppliers to maximise value for the business. Capacity planning of the network is also a key element of the role along with the business case creation and design justification.
Additionally, you will support and provide designs and solutions to fulfil current and future demands of Optical network infrastructure for growth, sales support and strategic driven projects. You will manage the delivery of detailed design workflow from job initiation through to implementation, along with the creation and maintenance of key network records. You will be responsible for financial and budget requirements and production of weekly reports.
What do I need?
Extensive experience within a service provider environment with an in-depth knowledge of Optical networks, technical certifications knowledge is desirable. You will have a strong working knowledge of other telecommunications technologies, including IP and MPLS.
You will display a high level of confidence and can work to your own initiative to ensure we are delivering projects to time and budget as well as being proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio and Excel. You will also have experience of design within a telecommunications environment and you'll also have experience in the use of geographical information systems.
