About the Department

SSE IT underpins the technology needs of all the different businesses that make up the SSE group. From emerging technologies to DnA to cyber security - we power SSE's growth and enable it to generate value, while keeping it secure. As a trusted business partner that helps SSE lead in a low carbon world, we are proud of our service. Working for SSE IT is all about equipping SSE for now and the future.

What is the Role?

As a Senior Security Analyst, you will be responsible for leading security capabilities, developing and operating existing security-based controls. In addition, you will manage stakeholder tasks from all levels within the SSE Group.

This role will suit experienced analysts having previously worked in a SOC environment, however we would be keen to see security professionals with experience in other areas, especially with a development background. You'll be part of an on-call rota.

With the increasing cyber risk to companies such as SSE, operating Critical National Infrastructure and managing highly confidential information, we need to ensure we stay secure and compliant and understand and manage the risks we face.

Our team is increasing, and we provide cyber risk and information security services as a trusted advisor to our SSE business units. This operational role is key to expanding the scope of services required to reduce the impact or likelihood of a security incident. You'll be part of a team responsible for detecting, analysing and responding to security incidents.

You'll actively be looking for vulnerabilities and identifying potential threats; both within the corporate environment and externally.

You'll need a high level of technical skills and your day-to-day workload will typically include the management and analysis of security events, escalation and remediation as required.

You may also have the opportunity to support security projects and enhance and develop SOC services.

Your Skills and Experience

You'll ideally have advanced education in computer science, information systems or other related field alongside significant work experience in a busy security operations centre. Professional security management certification, such as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) or similar supporting credentials would be beneficial.

We would be particularly keen to see candidates with development experience such as: -

Javascript, Python, Perl, PHP, Powershell, Bash, C# / VB .Net, Experience with writing SQL queries and database analytics

To perform successfully as a CRIS professional at this senior level, you'll bring significant proven experience working within IT Information and Cyber Security, with exposure to infrastructure/networks and multi-platformed environments. You'll also have excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on customer service. With great communications and stakeholder engagement, you'll also demonstrate the ability to effectively manage your priorities within a heavy workload.

Internal candidates should notify their line manager before submitting their application.

Please be aware if you are successful, you'll be required to complete our pre-employment screening process before joining SSE.
