Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

SSEN Transmission are currently seeking Senior Consents & Environmental Managers who are highly motivated, experienced and have a genuine passion to develop, consent and help deliver some of the most iconic upcoming National infrastructure projects in Scotland. They will directly facilitate Scotland's ambitions to meet NetZero through connecting renewable energy and transporting it to the core centres of demand.

Working under a Lead Consents & Environment Manager you will manage and mentor a small team to assess, help develop, consent and deliver clusters of projects. In addition, you will bring your experience and expertise in optioneering, EIA, consenting and delivery to lead on specific, high profile and complex projects.

All of this is delivered within a highly professional, experienced, supportive and multi-award winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives (RTPI In-house planning team of the year - Finalist, IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards - Biodiversity & Environmental Net Gain - Winner).

The main duties and responsibilities are:

- Actively manage, develop, mentor and train a small team of less experienced/junior staff, supporting their individual performance and development within the wider team. Coach staff to improve their knowledge of the business, environmental and planning requirements, role specific processes and procedures, risk management and efficient delivery of tasks.

- Lead on and coordinate strategic/complex project optioneering, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), consenting (Electricity Act, Town and Country Planning) and other environmental licensing to ensure facilitation of timely project delivery whist meeting all statutory obligations and our sector leading environmental and sustainability ambitions.

- Scope, tender, award and manage multiple consultancy contracts to support the delivery of routeing, EIA, consenting and management for large capital projects.

- Develop, control and build critical external stakeholder relationships (consenting bodies, statutory authorities, key consultees), communicating the criticality of infrastructure and the project requirements, in order to build consensus around project decision making and create an environment of mutually supportive relationships.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Demonstrable experience in managing, developing, mentoring and training less experienced/junior team members; actively supporting their individual performance and development within the wider team.

- Detailed knowledge of the Scottish Planning Process, consenting regimes and Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.

- Demonstrable project management experience and understanding of how to manage all aspects of the delivery of major projects e.g. project definition and set up, management of consultants, costs, risk, quality and timing, which are essential to the success of this role.

- Ability to represent SSEN's interests externally at a senior level, with previous provable stakeholder management skills including engaging, influencing and negotiating to develop effective relationships.

- Ideally you will have a Planning or Environmental related degree, preferably with post graduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant industry (e.g. infrastructure, environmental / planning consultancy dealing with consenting of major and National projects). Membership of an appropriate planning or environmental professional body is also desirable.

- A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast-moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across an extensive workload. Innovation and new ideas are welcomed where they can add value and improve the consenting approach. Success in the role will be rewarded with good opportunities for long term career progression within a rapidly growing and key infrastructure company.
