About the Department

SSE Enterprise Utilities is part of the Distributed Energy business of SSE plc. We finance, own, operate and maintain a broad portfolio, from electrical vehicle (EV) infrastructure, to distributed energy systems including renewable and low-carbon generation, energy storage and heat networks as well as building owning and adopting private HV networks. What is the Role?

In this role, you will be responsible for owning, driving and managing the commercial processes for our existing assets (in long term agreements) and actively incorporate learnings from day to day operations to enhance procedures and demonstrate continuous improvement. You will be required to develop and manage good working relationships with all levels of the Business Management Team to ensure efficient and effective support and communication.

The main objectives of the role are; to ensure the business is making 'data-driven decisions by accurately collecting, managing and reporting the financials from within the business, constantly improving the processes in place to improve efficiency, and ensuring alignment with the contractual agreements in place with our customers.

You will be the lead on business planning and reporting efforts such as; robust annual budgeting, forecasting, calculating monthly accruals, variance and sensitivity analysis. The work will be based on multiple Distributed Energy systems, largely Private Electricity Networks. You will collaborate primarily with internal support teams, but occasionally also with customers and partners.

This is a challenging role which provides the rare opportunity of operational, financial and analytical experience and the chance to add considerable and quantifiable value to the business.

What do I need?

Commercially aware, with a good understanding of the utilities industry and of project management systems and / or project life-cycle processes.

Experience in an analytical, financial or commercial role, ideally within the energy industry, with strong financial/accounting knowledge.

Degree educated or equivalent with good business acumen, attention to detail and a drive to continually improve and optimise business performance.

Enjoy working in a client driven environment, with excellent communication skills and customer service approach.

Advanced skills in Microsoft applications including Excel and the ability to interpret contractual documentation, scoping & implementing the practical applications.

Ability to assess and understand industry/regulatory change along with high attention to detail as well as strong organisational & prioritisation skills.

Willingness to embrace and actively participate in a strong safety culture orientated business.

Professional, highly customer focused, able to build and sustain good working relationships with key stakeholders.

Self-motivated, a natural problem solver, who is willing to challenge the 'status quo, seeing issues and creating/driving plans to fix them on their own initiative and be a team player with the ability to contribute to decision making and an ongoing determination to do the right thing and be passionate about the development and growth of our business.

Ability to distil complex information and communicate on a variety of levels & be open and honest, always ready to challenge and accept challenges.

Flexible with work routine; able to work on a wide range of projects/networks without sacrificing quality of delivery and progression of tasks in a timely manner.
