About the Department

Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc is responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

The Transmission Business Planning and Commercial Team works to ensure that the business is ready for future challenges. This includes delivery of our Sustainability Strategy and the Environmental Discretionary Reward (EDR) Incentive. Implemented by Ofgem, this scheme provides a financial and reputational incentive for the transmission business to provide evidence that we are achieving high standards of environmental management and renewable energy connections as we move to a lower carbon future.

What is the Role?

Youll support the delivery of our Sustainability Strategy and undertake analysis on the future of energy and decarbonisation. You can view our Sustainability Strategy and plans at this link: www.ssen-transmission.co.uk/sustainability-and-environment/sustainability-strategy/.

As an expert in insights, sustainability or business change, you'll be able to work with colleagues to design and implement new business processes and approaches to deliver the benefits of sustainability and planning for a decarbonised energy future.

You will also contribute to our EDR Incentive submissions, working closely with colleagues to provide an award winning submission. This will involve supporting business teams in implementing improvements, gathering information and producing incentive submission drafts, leading to our final submission.

Your role will encompass extensive stakeholder liaison, research, establishing required activities and processes, and sourcing evidence to deliver the strategy, ensuring that it is sustainable and to the benefit of the Transmission business. You'll also aim to deliver an increased awareness of sustainability and environment within the business, engaging your colleagues and encouraging a culture of awareness.

What do I need?

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the delivery of real change within the energy industry, and as such, we ask that you have an awareness of sustainability, including wider social impacts and environmental issues. You'll hold experience in preparing and presenting business reports to a wide range of stakeholders, including strong analytical skills and an ability to identify innovative and progressive solutions. A key area of knowledge required is of our industry, and the regulatory bodies that govern it; any specific experience in energy networks would be a bonus, however not essential.

Your role will be varied, and often involve a range of diverse technical projects; therefore, you should be a highly organised individual, with an ability to work under pressure, and to often tight deadlines. Due to the nature of your role, you should also have a knack for relaying complex messages in an easy to understand manner, with an ability to influence stakeholders where required.
