|Contact Name:||Jenna Jackson|
Base Location: Perth, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen
Salary: £40,201 - £53,096 depending on skills and experience
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible working patterns available
What is the Role
At SSEN we are committed to delivering efficient, economic and co-ordinated network solutions to meet the net zero carbon emissions targets proposed by Government. As such, our future network is being planned and designed to meet the needs of future consumer behaviours as more Electric Vehicles and Low Carbon Technologies begin to connect to our network. With the future of networks in mind, SSEN is currently developing the business plan for next Price Control, RIIO-ED2, which is due to commence in April 2023.
As a RIIO-ED2 Network Development Engineer you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to build the SSEN Local Development Plans (LDP) that will help deliver Government net zero carbon emission targets and ensure future consumer needs are met. You will draw on SSEN Distribution Future Energy Scenarios and use developing forecasting tools to translate the LDP's into scenario-based forward system capacity projections. This will enable load growth analysis to be undertaken and future capacity solutions to be determined based on identification of network constraints. This will be used to inform SSEN's RIIO-ED2 load-related investment strategy. This strategy must consider Whole System Planning and flexible solutions as an alternative to traditional reinforcement proposals.
What do I need?
The successful applicant will have the ability to undertake detailed analysis on usage profiles and pricing signals for different consumer technologies - both generation and demand, as this will be key to the development of the overall LDP's and load-related strategy. An understanding of how different consumer technologies interact and how they can be managed to drive improved network performance, is desirable. Although there will be a primary focus on load-related strategy, the successful applicant will be required to consolidate non-load related expenditure to develop an optimal overall RIIO-ED2 business plan.
To succeed in this role, you should be qualified to a minimum HNC level in Electrical Engineering, have detailed knowledge of distribution networks, be commercially aware, have a passion for solving problems to achieve net zero carbon emissions targets and an ability to drive business strategies. You should have an interest in the regulatory environment in which the SSEN business operates and a general understanding of RIIO-ED2 and the high-level requirements of the ED2 Business Plan process. You will also need to be a confident communicator with the ability to discuss technical detail with a wide variety of stakeholders that may not have the same knowledge and understanding. You should be comfortable organising, planning and prioritising your workload to achieve demanding targets and deadlines. Experience using network modelling software packages such as SinCal and/or PSSe would be advantageous.
