About the Role

Base Location: Flexible UK, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant or London.

Our Capital Projects teams are responsible for developing and building our Renewables Assets, both onshore and offshore with a focus on maximising the value of our current pipelines, whilst pursuing new markets.

Globally, the demand for renewables is on the rise. There is strong renewables growth potential in international markets where we can extend our capabilities and diversify our pipeline. This expansion is currently underway and we are actively participating in seabed lease bids and acquiring offshore wind development platform such as the recent acquisition of an 80% stake in Pacifico Energy, a Japanese offshore wind farm developer.

We are looking to recruit a Lead Consent Manager, to deliver the consenting and environmental deliverables in seabed lease bids and assist with due diligence on acquisitions for our growing offshore wind farm pipeline. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a dedicated new sites consent team, focusing on bringing innovate ideas for winning bid content. It will involve identifying leading research and environmental opportunities across the work to endure SSEs bid are world leading. This content will sell cutting-edge ideas on how to tackle both the biodiversity and climate change emergencies.

As a Lead Consents Manager:

  • Working creatively to come up with ideas and written content to meet bid scoring criteria,
  • Identify environmental constraints and opportunities to support site identification.
  • Identify interesting development in UK and International environmental opportunities which could help SSERs success in sea bed lease bids.
  • Keep up to date with research programmes to make sure bid content is at the cutting edge of the industry,
  • You will lead and deliver necessary consents and environmental input to seabed lease bids, managing spealist consultants and engaging with key stakeholders,
  • Carry out due diligence on acquisitions identifying relevant risks and opportunities.
  • You will work as part of the wider SSE Renewables development team, with the potential to work across one of the largest development portfolios of offshore and onshore wind projects in the UK and Ireland with sites at a variety of different stages of development.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • We are looking for a dynamic and delivery focused individual who preferably have experience in consenting or environmental research in the onshore infrastructure required for offshore renewables, but other sectors will be considered.
  • The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience and understanding of the offshore wind sector including UK and international environmental research programmes.
  • It is essential that you can work effectively both independently, and as part of the wider SSE Renewables team, managing internal and external resources and supporting and mentoring junior team members, deputising for senior colleagues and engaging in strategic discussions on complex technical and environmental issues.
  • You will be able to provide consenting advice to internal development teams on consenting strategy and manage consenting risks and opportunities on projects.
  • Ability to make decisions based on limited information.
  • Your personality should be seen in your ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders including regulators, statutory and non-statutory advisors, coupled with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • A commercial approach to all work is expected, challenging colleagues, stakeholders and contractors to manage risk, achieve viable solutions to consenting issues and support overall project objectives.
