About the Department
SSE Airtricity is one of the largest energy retail businesses on the island of Ireland. It offers gas and electricity to both domestic and commercial customers in Northern Ireland and Ireland and has an extensive Home Energy Services business.
The SSE Airtricity Regulation team is responsible for managing and leading SSE Airtricity on interactions with regulators across both Ireland and Northern Ireland, namely the Commission for Regulation of Utilities and Utility Regulator.
We represent the business at industry fora, lead the development of responses to regulatory changes and advocate for our positions with both regulators on the island of Ireland.
We also work collaboratively with industry to develop common positions on regulatory matters which may impact our business. These interactions can vary from responding to the formation of new policy, new market framework changes and code or dealing with information requests when required.
Internally, we provide regulatory advice and guidance to the business across all regulatory aspects ranging from industry codes, licence requirements, and regulatory policy.
What is the Role
Reporting to your manager, this role focuses on analysing and providing guidance to the business on regulatory requirements that impact the business. You will be responsible for understanding regulatory requirements and disseminating regulatory information in a clear and concise manner across the retail business. As part of this, you will work with a cross-division of retail-focused teams responsible for ensuring processes and policies are aligned with our regulatory requirements. You will also assist the team in delivering strategic regulatory priorities for the business, thereby developing your own capabilities and leadership capabilities.
As a subject matter expert, you will coordinate SSE Airtricity responses to regulatory consultations and industry changes. This will include collating internal views, drafting submissions for approval and assisting the team in representing the business at industry fora.
What do I need?
Ideal candidates will hold a degree level qualification in economics, finance, business, law or a related subject. Candidates with experience in working in an operational environment will also be considered where they can demonstrate experience relevant to the role.
We look for candidates who are effective communicators, both written and oral. Candidates will demonstrate that they can communicate clearly, concisely and with confidence, whilst taking account of the audiences we deal with internally and externally. This can range from drafting responses to consultation papers, drafting internal guidance on consumer protection or responding to requests for information from the regulatory authorities. This requires candidates to have strong analytical skills and demonstrate research capabilities.
Candidates will be naturally curious with a capacity to learn and will demonstrate that they are self-motivated and capable of ensuring CRU and UR regulatory activities are monitored and regulatory submissions actioned taking account of ensuring quality and timeliness.
