About the Department
Our SSE Markets Regulation and Group Compliance function is accountable for providing specific legislative, regulatory, industry code, cost forecast and market arrangements advice and guidance tailored to the businesses. We oversee and monitor the businesses compliance using a risk based approach, ensuring effective controls and systems are in place and support the businesses to take corrective actions. We provide subject matter expertise and support to the management of SSEs relationships with external regulatory stakeholders, such as Ofgem. Working with our business, we identify, prioritise and lead SSEs responses to existing and new market frameworks, codes and regulatory policy changes (including dealing with information requests, consultation and attending external meetings) to influence and secure the best outcomes for SSE. We also support the business to fully understand, interpret and act upon the changes.
What is the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a talented and ambitious individual to join the Customer Solutions GB Regulation team (Business Energy).
Reporting to the Head of Regulation you will be responsible for proactively building and maintaining strategic relationships with external industry / regulatory / trade bodies (e.g. in relation to our responsibilities under the Master Registration Agreement, Supply Point Administration Agreement and Retail Energy Code). You will lead key pieces of regulatory and industry codes work (e.g. our regulatory approach to the Ofgem Switching Programme). This includes drafting responses to consultations and requests for information issued by Ofgem and relevant industry bodies, delivering the regulatory strategy for key business workstreams and effectively representing the views of Business Energy through attendance at external events and meetings. You will be capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels within Business Energy and will be expert at communicating important messages concisely both verbally and in writing.
You will have a strong focus on providing an excellent service for Business Energy, providing accurate and timely guidance on the interpretation of regulatory and industry code obligations, and be comfortable engaging at all levels in the organisation.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you will ideally be degree qualified with experience of managing relationships with energy industry code parties and Ofgem (or equivalent utilities experience). You will be comfortable interpreting regulatory and/or industry code obligations and providing advice on this to business colleagues. You will have excellent report writing skills, good attention to detail, first class communication skills and be structured in approach and resilient in character.
Attendance at regular monthly industry meetings will be a key requirement for this role and therefore an element of travel across GB will be required, so the candidate should preferably be able to drive.
