About the Department
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
You'll be responsible for the day to day maintenance and fault rectification of RTS equipment deployed at hill top radio sites and SSEN substations. You'll also support the RTS Design & Delivery team with the supervision of new projects. Participation in an emergency standby support rota will also be required.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you'll have field working experience and have a good understanding in one or more of the following; SCADA and NMS systems, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Telemetry Protocols (DNP3, EWISP+), ADSL, TCP/IP, UDP, APNs & VPNs, GSM, UMTS, LTE networks, Tsat, Tele-protection Systems. UHF Scanning Radio, Fibre Optics and Copper Cable Networks, Automation schemes.
Ideally, you'll have undertaken an apprenticeship or similar training in telecommunications, IT, electronics or related subject. You'll be qualified to at least ONC or equivalent, however an HNC is preferred. As Safety is SSE's number one priority, you'll display a strong focus on safety.
You'll have excellent communication skills, be open to innovative ideas and be pragmatic in your approach. In addition, you must be able to manage your own work load and work well independently. As much of the technology being implemented is relatively new, training will be given where necessary. The role will be field based, and will require regular travel to substations, sites, supplier locations and other SSE offices so a full current driving license is essential.
