About the Department

Our SSE Finance function has a key part to play in fulfilling SSEs obligations as a UK-listed company, providing expertise and services that can be shared across the SSE Group, and working in partnership with all businesses to provide services tailored to their specific needs. SSE operates in a highly regulated and increasingly competitive environment, and our role is to ensure that we gather, compile, analyse and recommend on the financial strategy for our businesses, identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies and create value for SSE now, and in the future.

What is the Role?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality & Change Lead (QCL) responsible for leading, developing and implementing the programme of quality and change within Accounts Payable (AP).

The QCL is responsible for the overarching assessment of internal controls and processes within AP to ensure that these are robust, efficient and comply with internal and external policy and regulation along with control for the co-ordination of internal and external audit recommendations and responses, agreement and management of departmental SLAs and oversight of departmental KPIs.

The role will also include responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the AP reporting suite and be the point of contact for all change that lands within the AP function and ensuring it is implemented successfully.

The QCL will take control for the AP communication strategy for both internal and external stakeholders. This will underpin the foundations for robust and sound supplier and business relationships and the effective management of supplier accounts.

Support the Payment Performance Lead in processing and payment of all invoices for SSE Group.

Support the Payment Performance Lead in building partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with key business stakeholders.

- Ensure compliance with external regulatory and legislative requirements in addition to other reporting (where applicable) whilst supporting and maintaining associated policies and procedures

- Develop and implement an internal control framework and undertake regular reviews of processes and controls to ensure that these are designed and operating effectively

- Manage all engagement with internal and external audit, particularly collating all recommendations and responses to these

- Lead on the refinement of AP SLAs/KPIs and the monitoring of these

- Manage and assess AP risks ensuring appropriate escalation and management of the risks

- Develop a strategy for effective change management within the AP Function

- Accountable for creating a culture where change is embraced, successfully implemented and sustained

- Develop an effective communication strategy that establishes working relationships between all stakeholders of the Accounts Payable Function

- Accountable for the business continuity plan

- Accountable for maintaining the departmental training matrix

- Accountable for the integrity, maintenance & development of the Purchase Ledger, Bank Reconciliations and other key control accounts

- Accountable for a reporting suite providing insights into process performance that will drive improvements to payment performance and the overall Procure to Pay cycle

- If required, be prepared to deputise for the Group Accounts Payable Lead (GAPL)

- Ownership of Deputy Lead/Manager programme and succession planning

- Lead, motivate and develop the Quality Change team of circa 7 FTE

What do I need?

Experience of leading & delivering continuous improvement projects in an AP function.

Demonstrable experience in managing customers effectively, including a range of stakeholders and able to contribute positively to the overall direction of the AP function.

Relevant qualification in Accounting / Change Management / Continuous Improvement
