About the Department

Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

What is the Role?

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Major Projects team to deliver 11/33/132kv cable projects. These projects will vary from small projects to underground some spans of our 11kv network to larger more complex multi-million pound 33kv and 132kv cable projects in rural and urban environments.

The vast majority of these cable projects will be delivered by SSEN's In-house Construction Team where we take on the role of Principle Contractor and manage resources supplied via a labour and plant framework agreement. The successful candidate will be aligned closely with the Cable Team Construction Manager who is responsible for the day to day running of the construction teams which includes safety and quality.

As a Project manager, your main responsibility will be to manage projects in accordance with our investment management process to ensure delivery within budget and to an agreed programme. As part of a project management team, you'll work closely with the Construction Manager, design engineers, field staff, contractors, customers, and key stakeholders.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you'll have previous experience of managing construction projects involving underground cables. An engineering qualification is preferred and a recognised qualification in construction safety and project management would be advantageous.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital, and you will need to be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external. You'll be experienced in the Construction Design and Management Regulations and understand the duties of Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor. Whilst the majority of projects will be In-house it would be an advantage to have experience in contract management, you'll ideally have experience of NEC construction contracts. With good problem-solving skills, you'll have the ability to thrive under pressure.
