About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the HVDC, 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of subsea and underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers, DC/AC converter stations and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
Due to growth, SHE Transmission currently has a vacancy for a Project Manager to lead project teams in the refinement and execution of large capital projects across the Transmission business. The role will ensure the safe delivery to programme, cost and the necessary quality of an HVDC switching station and underground land cables near Wick in Caithness as part of the Shetland HVDC Link project. Key to this purpose is the leadership of project teams involving both staff and external contractors, to ensure project excellence is achieved through a competent, motivated and improvement focussed team using robust systems to support the project process.
The Project Manager should apply and adhere to the Safety Management Systems, best practices and the SSE Large Capital Projects Governance processes for all projects. It is also important that they lead the project teams in alignment with the SSE Safety Culture and core leadership values.
The Project Manager should also deliver in alignment to the SHE-Transmission RIIO-T2 Business Plan paying particular attention the 5 clear goals.
The Project Manager (Transmission Capital Delivery Projects) will take responsibility for the project(s) following a handover from the Transmission Development Team around Gate 2 on the LCP process.
What do I need?
To be considered for the position of Project Manager we are looking for an experienced leader with a broad understanding of project management methodology and practice who ideally has knowledge of SSE's company standards, policies and procedures.
You will have a strong understanding of the Transmission Business and regulated environment that we operate in and will have a back ground in either the Transmission industry, or construction, or the utilities sector on major projects. A strong engineering and construction knowledge including applicable safety and CDM regulations is also essential to this role.
As a strong manager you will be experienced in the reporting and management requirements that come with such a role and have a proven track record in successful delivery and an understanding of developing and managing integrated project programmes.
You will ideally have experience of personally being responsible for the delivery of large capital projects and have a good understanding of the tendering process for the purchasing and engagement of suppliers including multi-disciplinary contracts.
Preferably you will be experienced in or have at least an understanding of the need to accurately control cost forecasting as well as being able to decipher; Industry legislation, Health and Safety Legislation and Company policies and procedures.
Strong communication skills both written and verbally are required for this role and you should be capable of representing SHE Transmission with outside organisations.
