About the Department
At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role
As Project Engineer - Embedded Generation, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of project works including design specification, management of consultants, tendering, procurement, setting staff and contractors to work, safety, managing financial control and completing / archiving of project documentation. Project works will include management of civil, mechanical and electrical assets at 7 standby power stations and 1 full duty power station as required.
You will ensure that business objectives are achieved in accordance with safety, quality, environmental and technical regulations and that all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and practices are followed to minimise the Companys risk of exposure to significant fines and adverse publicity. This will involve planning, organising, monitoring and controlling projects to ensure full and effective use is made of all available resources and ensuring that all projects are processed through a recognised design process in accordance with investment management practices.
What do I need?
Educated to HNC level as a minimum in a project management, civil, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering discipline or with extensive experience gained within power stations operations, you will be familiar with the operational authorisation structure and have an in-depth knowledge of CDM and knowledge of IS0 9001 and IS0 14001 regulations.
Previous experience in delivering technical projects to agreed scope, on time and within project budget will be vital in enabling you to make necessary decisions on escalation from formal stakeholder engagement, SEPA and SHE, as well as provide key advice on business processes, safety performance, environmental issues and areas of regulatory risk and potential failings. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are therefore crucial as is the ability to influence, negotiate and problem solve.
