What is the Role?
This role is specifically for the Resilience as a Service (Raas) Project, which has been successfully funded from the Ofgem Network Innovation Competition. The Resilience as a Service (RaaS) project aims to maintain and improve reliability, particularly for remote and isolated networks, while avoiding carbon intensive standby generation. The project will develop a market-based solution for resilience to provide customers with a low carbon, cost effective and secure electricity supply.
This is a collaborative project, to be delivered with input from project partners EON and Costain. The overall value of the RaaS project is approximately £11m.
In this role, you'll provide expert technical support to the Network Innovation Competition (NIC) based on engineering knowledge to support the development of innovative solutions and provide technical guidance to project objectives including network operation, performance & monitoring.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you will hold an engineering qualification (HNC minimum) and understand how the UK industry operates, is regulated and how SSEN fits into it. You'll have an understanding of SSENs Networks business and an awareness of regulatory framework licence obligations. Furthermore, you'll have awareness of the smart solutions and new technologies that can be deployed on the distribution network in relation to current impacts that the connection of distributed energy has on SSENs distribution and transmission licences.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be required along with the ability to influence others. The ability to solve complex technical problems and develop structured risk-based solutions to address issues is key. You'll be resilient under pressure and have a flexible and pragmatic attitude in the work environment.
