About the role

Gas Transmission operates and maintains the national gas transmission system in the UK. Historically, our gas has come from the UK continental shelf fields. But with these resources running out fast, we’re looking at other supplies and sources, including importing international gas supplies. It’s a new phase, making this an even more exciting time to join.

Our National Transmission System (NTS) which stretches right across Scotland, England and Wales is made up of approximately 9,000 km of high pressure steel pipelines and 25 compressor stations. Joining the Gas Transmission team behind it, you’ll help them deliver the improvements essential to its ongoing safety, reliability and security whilst also working on external customer projects.

Key Tasks and Areas of Work

On this two year development course, you’ll be challenged from the start as you take on all aspects of project management, high pressure gas engineering, operation and maintenance through a structured training programme, all while studying for a Foundation degree. We’ll support you every step of the way. And if you successfully complete the course, you’ll kick start your career equipped with the all-round skills and experience needed to shine.

About you

  • You must have, or be predicted to gain, a Grade C or above/4-9 or equivalent GCSE in English Language
  • In addition to the GCSE requirements, you must also have one of the following sets of qualifications:
    • A-Levels - 1 must be in Maths or Physics (Grade C or above)
    • BTEC National Certificate Level 3 in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering (Merit or Distinction with Maths modules being Merit or Distinction)
    • BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering (Merit or Distinction with Maths modules being Merit or Distinction)
    • ONC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Merit or Distinction with the Maths modules being Merit or Distinction)
    • HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering (Pass, Merit or Distinction)
    • Degree in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering
  • To apply for this role, you must hold a valid full UK car driving licence.
  • You must be willing to relocate your primary residence to within a 45-minute journey time to the location of the role. Details about when this must be done and whether relocation assistance will be provided will be confirmed at Assessment Centre stage. You will also be required to spend a large proportion of your time at our Training Academy in Eakring and/or at the relevant educational institution.
  • This role requires you to work in confined spaces and work at heights during the programme and/or in the end role.
