About the Department
SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.
What is the Role?
You'll be responsible for delivering a range of training courses to Lighting Services staff, clients and contractors, with the aim of improving operational safety, performance and efficiency. This will include conducting NVQ assessments to enable staff to demonstrate competency and achieve accreditation.
Working in conjunction with operations, across our Northern Region (Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, Stoke and Knowsley), you'll actively contribute to the continuing development of the Training and NVQ Centre, ensuring that material is kept current. You'll also address specific business needs to enable learners to stay engaged to gain as much knowledge and skill as possible. This will involve working efficiently within budgeted travel and accommodation parameters and liaising with Managers on a regular basis to keep them aware of goals and individual candidate progress.
With a strong ability to make things happen and drive through to conclusion, your role will also involve active participation in delivering against department KPI's, business strategy and company values.
What Do I Need?
You'll be a qualified electrician with City & Guilds or equivalent training and ideally have experience in working on Highway Electrical systems and apparatus, (or at least be willing to gain this experience as you work towards your Trainer/ Assessor registration with our awarding bodies). You'll also be required to have, or to gain, a strong understanding of SSE Lighting Services policies, procedures and standards.
You'll be an excellent communicator with strong organisation skills to enable you to plan, prepare, and deliver effective training. You'll be confident working independently but also have strong team working skills and have experience in using basic Microsoft Office program's such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
Ideally you will already be experienced in facilitating training and hold a recognised teaching qualification (such as PTLLS or equivalent) together with an Assessor/ IQA qualification. This will be a requirement for registration with our awarding bodies, so as a minimum you must be prepared to work towards this as soon as possible.
This role involves a significant amount of travel across our main sites and locations, therefore a full UK driving licence is essential as is the expectation of regularly staying overnight away from home.
