About the Department
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks owns and operates two electricity distribution networks, comprising 123,000 substations and 127,000 kilometres of underground cables and overhead lines. We deliver power to 30% of the UK's landmass, serving 3.7 million customers.
The Connections team is responsible for meeting customers needs in respect of connections to the electricity network, including single homes, housing developments, industrial developments, generation developments, and independent distribution networks. The Connections team design and offer connections to meet customer needs whilst ensuring continuing safety, reliability and quality of the network. With the UK committed to #NetZero, we have played and continue to play a vital part in facilitating decarbonisation of electricity, heat, and transport.
What is the Role
As Connections Design Manager, you will lead a team of Connections Designers and Quoters who are responsible for designing, estimating and issuing electricity connection offers to serve our customers throughout Southern England. You will ensure your team are pro-active and responsive to the varying needs of all customers including first time customers, experienced developers and competitors providing alternatives to our offers. You will be responsible for ensuring your teams prioritise excellent service issuing high quality connections offers that comply with our statutory and regulatory obligations, are technically sound, and are commercially robust. In addition, you will work closely with our delivery teams to ensure excellent application to energisation experiences for customers who accept their connection offers and to deliver profits for the business within regulated margin.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role you will have a higher or further education qualification in electrical engineering. Knowledge of electricity distribution is preferred along with a solid appreciation of statutory and regulatory obligations, previous experience in managing a team and the ability to support implementation of change successfully.
