About the Role
As Mechanical Engineer, you'll be accountable for managing the asset integrity of the wind turbine fleet and assisting the operations teams in operating safe, reliable and profitable wind turbines. To achieve this, you'll be required to undertake and coordinate wind power plant assessments to evaluate the current condition of the assets, identifying actions required to manage any significant risks. The assessments will incorporate physical inspection, review of compliance with standards and legislation, data analysis and collaboration with a multi-discipline engineering team to form a holistic view of the asset.
You'll also be involved in strategic projects around the management of the wind fleet; from wind turbine life extension management, writing design and engineering standards for the SSE Renewables wind turbine fleet, through to serial defect analysis and remedial advice and reporting.
The Mechanical Engineering team also provide wind turbine due diligence and contract specification services to the wind farm development side of the business, and this role may be required to assist with this from time to time.
Skills and Experience
Due to the nature of this role, there are a couple of key requirements that we are looking for, such as;
- You should be a Chartered engineer or have a clear path to becoming Chartered,
- A detailed technical knowledge of wind turbine operation and technology is desirable,
- Experience and knowledge of asset management, managing asset risk and developing asset management strategies,
- Knowledge of wind turbine standards, legislation and industry best practice,
- Strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions,
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will also be necessary, along with a positive and innovative mind set, a flexible approach and the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment.
Although office based, you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, therefore a full valid driving license will be essential.
As part of the role you will be required to climb wind turbines, involving entering confined spaces and working at height.
