You're in the jungle. You're lost. The sounds of screeching monkeys and rustling branches fill the air, leaving you standing there in perpetual fear trying to look between every tree and around every vine for the next predator eyeing up you for its dinner. You are mixed with urges to stand completely still like a deer in headlights and the urge to run faster than Usain Bolt on steroids. This is what it feels like to try and step into the shoes of an Organisation Design Consultant. You need to be fully prepared for what lies ahead like a corporate crossover between Tarzan and Mowgli, completely at one with the world of management consulting and able to adapt to your surroundings quicker than a cuttlefish crossed with a chameleon.
In this role you will be helping clients to create new designs for their organisations which will address the issues they are having and the vision they seek to attain. To do this you will have to be creative and think outside of the box as mentioned earlier, applying your expert knowledge into difficult challenges. While you need to have experience in an organisational design consulting role, you will have to adapt to every client and their individual needs. This will require both impeccable listening and communication skills to learn what is wanted as well as why the suggestions you come up with are so important. You will have to communicate with all levels of stakeholder to explain the reasoning and importance of your decisions, requiring both empathy and professionalism to relate to people while staying focused on the objective at hand.
