About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Project Manager to join us to successfully deliver large High Voltage transmission projects as part of our RIIOT2 business plan. As a result of future growth we have an increasing number of complex and challenging projects to develop and deliver. Therefore a suitably experienced candidate is sought to oversee these projects and manage teams of internal staff, external delivery contractors and consultants.
Reporting to the Project Director, you will take overall leadership in the delivery of assigned packages of work and be responsible for the management of a team of Project Managers, Construction Managers and other team members across multiple locations as the various projects assigned to you move through our internal governance process towards construction and commissioning.
You will work closely with the Transmission Management Team to ensure projects are refined, constructed and commissioned in line with the Transmission Business Plan and required regulatory outputs.
As a strong communicator, you will build and maintain productive and enduring relationships with Contractors, Stakeholders, Communities and the public to support the sustainable delivery of the projects that you are responsible for.
You will be expected to identify business improvements and where required support colleagues and the business to develop, test, implement and verify business improvements. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and internal regulations, processes and governance.

To be considered for this opportunity, you should have experience of the Transmission industry, of construction, and ideally specific knowledge of electricity networks. Specific knowledge of the SHE Transmission business would be preferable but is not necessary. You'll have worked in a similar role previously and have vast experience of managing technically complex large capital projects and large multi- functional teams. Direct experience of delivering Transmission substation, overhead line and/or cabling projects would be advantageous.
Furthermore, you'll understand and have experience of the reporting and management requirements that come with that. Additionally, you'll be a strong leader, with an ability to lead a multi-discipline team to success.
You'll hold a vast range of engineering and construction knowledge and will understand the tendering process for engagement of material and contractor support. A qualification in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering is desirable but not essential. You will preferably hold a professional registration or qualification, such as Chartered Engineer, APM, or are working toward the same or similar.
