What is the Role

We are currently seeking Lead Package Engineers - Structures with knowledge and experience in the development and execution phases of largescale Offshore Wind Projects to join the Renewable Engineering and Innovation business. This role will support the SSE Renewables businesses through acting as a focal point for the Design Authority process to achieve appropriate standards, legislation and project objectives, whilst also ensuring value engineering and innovation are incorporated in the design of offshore foundations.

You will be responsible for establishing an appropriate package engineering team within a multi £billion offshore wind project, providing technical leadership and managing 3rd parties to ensure effective engineering design delivery. You will interpret project objectives and requirements, identify technology and design risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures in line with the project risk appetite.

You will coordinate with the Technical Authorities and senior management teams on technical, commercial and contractual matters.

This role will be a senior role within an existing team of structural engineers, so elements of leadership and mentoring of junior engineers will be required.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you should be a chartered engineer or have a very clear path to becoming chartered. You should have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience within either offshore structural or geotechnical engineering with a detailed understanding of offshore structural design processes, fabrication technology, transportation and construction techniques being desirable. You will preferably have experience in working with large scale projects and will be comfortable making engineering-based decisions with significant impact on engineering risk. You'll have a strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions. In particular, we are looking for individuals who have skills in the following;

-Experience in managing the design and decision-making process for Large scale projects involving international multi-disciplinary teams.

-Experience of managing the interfaces and technical risk between the key design disciplines of offshore wind foundations i.e. geotechnical, piling, grouted connection, primary/secondary steel, transition piece, electrical, turbine and fabrication, transportation and installation.

-Understanding of the main types of offshore wind substructure i.e. jackets, monopiles floating and what influences each choice.

-Experience in managing the verification process through certification agencies such as DNV-GL and Lloyds register.

-Experience of managing the initial design through to fabrication and construction and the importance of detailing for safety and ease of fabrication.

-Demonstrable knowledge and experience of latest methods of structural and geotechnical design of large-scale offshore wind projects i.e. Innovative analysis methods such as PISA, sequential and integrated coupled analysis.

-Understanding of designing for efficient operation of the assets.

-Knowledge of the latest in condition monitoring and structural monitoring techniques

You will display excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will possess an innovative mind set, have a flexible approach and have the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment. Although office based you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken.
