What is the Role

We are currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer with knowledge and experience in the development and execution phases of largescale Offshore Wind Projects to join the Renewable Engineering and Innovation business. This role will support the SSE Renewables businesses through acting as a focal point to achieve project objectives, whilst also ensuring value engineering and innovation are incorporated in the design of offshore facilities.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of all engineering design development activities required under the Large Capital Projects Governance Framework from Gate 0 to Gate 2 (early stage development) on a multi-£billion Offshore Wind Project. From Gate 2 responsible you will be responsible for ensuring the coordination and delivery of all ongoing design development activities from each package engineering team.

The role will require effective management of a multi-discipline project engineering team across a number of project packages, providing engineering assurances to the Design Authority that the project technology choice and design solution will deliver against stated project objectives and returns.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you should be a chartered engineer or have a very clear path to becoming chartered. You should have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience within engineering with a detailed understanding of offshore design processes, transportation and installation techniques. You will preferably have experience in working with large scale projects and will be comfortable making engineering-based decisions with significant impact on engineering risk. You'll have a strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions. In particular, we are looking for individuals who have skills in the following;

-Experience in managing the design and decision-making process for large scale projects involving international multi-disciplinary teams

-Ability to influence staff effectively, both within the project design development team and through an engineering matrix management structure, to ensure delivery of activities against project requirements and timescales

-Ability to management conflict in high pressure situations

-Knowledge and experience of relevant legislation and industry good practice

-High organisation capabilities to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.

-Experience in developing design development strategies appropriate to project and technology risks.

-Advanced report writing skills.

You will display excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will possess an innovative mind set, have a flexible approach and have the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment. Although office based you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken.
