About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
Due to a period of rapid growth and in line with our ambition to help the UK move to a green economy, SHE Transmission is looking to recruit a Lead Delivery Interface Manager for the Shetland HVDC Link Project. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Transmission business as we begin to connect Shetland with the mainland grid for the first time, enabling export of 600MW of renewable energy and playing our part in securing a lower carbon supply on the islands with reduced reliance on fossil fuels. The Shetland HVDC Link will also allow further renewable energy opportunities to be explored on and around Shetland in the knowledge that an export capability is available.
As Lead Delivery Interface Manager, you'll report directly to the Project Director and be responsible for the efficient management of all interfaces associated with the multi-contract delivery strategy, including:
- Application of BIM across all contractors
- Design interfaces between HVDC, AC, civils and cables contracts
- Proactive management of construction interfaces to minimise risk to SHE Transmission during delivery
- Major input to the commissioning process to meet SHE Transmission and our generator customer requirements
- Lead on the CDM interfaces in design and in construction and Commercial and contractual interface management
Frequent travel to Shetland and Noss Head (Wick) will be required along with occasional travel to SHE Transmission offices in Perth, Inverness and Glasgow.

What do I need?
This is a unique role and requires the ability to guide the senior leaders of the HVDC, AC, civils and cables contracts through the project taking cognisance of the overall interface picture. The ideal candidate will have experience in both major project delivery (preferably in the electricity transmission sector) and a strong background in contract negotiations at portfolio or programme level. Previous leadership experience of multi-contract design and delivery projects is a must.
Direct reports will include a design interface manager, interface engineers and a BIM team. The role requires close working with the delivery project managers, engineers and commercial managers across the works packages that make up the delivery of the project.
External relationships with the SHE Transmission delivery contractors will be key to the success of the role.
You will need to be ready to work in a high-paced project environment, able to analyse and interpret complex data from multiple sources and be confident in briefing senior management on issues and proposed resolutions.
