About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
You'll be supporting the Transmission Project teams through the commissioning process to ensure that projects are delivered safely and with due consideration of the overall network in line with NGESO, STC and SHE Transmission policy and STCP procedures. You'll lead a team of specialist engineers who ensure that commissioning requirements are delivered at each stage of a project, becoming involved at inception through to final handover to Operations.
You and your team will support SHE Transmission System and Outage Planners to establish the Network configuration which causes minimal disruption to transmission and distribution in order to deliver project scope. You'll have a good understanding of the different substation configurations and arrangements that are typically delivered and be able to advise on project configurations that meet project scenarios and the reality of existing substation layouts. You'll make sure that sequence and energisation diagrams are produced - with engineering - covering how projects will be delivered, identifying key dates, outage requirements, interim running arrangements, network contingencies, ERTS schedules, strategies and interfaces with the HV Transmission and Distribution systems. You will work closely with your transmission colleagues in the TCC, Technical Services and the Field Units so that project energisation and commissioning plans are prepared with a sound awareness of the network condition and arrangement at the points of delivery.
Ensuring Contractors Commissioning Activities comply with SHE Transmission procedures and process, you'll set the criteria and review and evaluate Inspection & Test Plans, Stage 1 and Stage 2 Commissioning Plans to determine the actions that need to be taken to maintain compliance and delivery with outage profiles. You will ensure that all STCP 19.3 and 19.4 commissioning activities, including HVSCC and other documents are coordinated to support Project teams in the delivery of transmission capital, revenue and refurbishment projects. You will need to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and customers.
You should be familiar with the Transmission T2 business plan objectives and lead your team in developing projects that meet the 5 main objectives.
What do I need?
To be successful in the role you will be educated to HND or above and have experience of UK Electricity Networks Transmission, Distribution and associated Telecoms (e.g. communications on networks). You should be able to demonstrate a proven track record within the UK Electricity Networks Transmission industry and extensive experience of design, installation, operations and commissioning covering all Transmission voltages. You'll have the ability to deliver high quality work in a demanding environment whilst maintaining accuracy. You will be familiar with the delivery of projects through the LCP Governance process and be able to represent the Head of Department on PRB and PAR governance boards. You'll also be able to represent Operations at PSR and pre-energisation reviews.
With experience in leading a team and the ability to be able to coordinate and motivate your team and stakeholders at all levels, you should have experience in delivering on-site training and development to Operations and Commissioning staff.
You'll have a passion for delivering first-class customer service and combine strong strategic and operational skills. You'll be an exceptional communicator who can challenge and influence, both internally and externally, and remain effective under pressure.
