About the Department
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
As a Lands Consents Officer (Surveyor), you'll be responsible for securing statutory and owner consents for underground cables, overhead line installations and purchasing/leasing for operational purposes. This will involve negotiating easements and licences with owners and their representatives together with the preparation of plans and instructions for legal services, dealing with access to requirements and associated damage claims. You'll also prepare consent documents and resolve any disputes with landowners and occupiers.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role you'll have experience of securing consents on cable schemes including 11/33/132kV, while working with Local Authorities, statutory bodies, customers, land agents, legal representatives and colleagues. Excellent communication skills are essential and previous experience in technically complex projects would be highly advantageous, as well as an understanding of statutory and environmental constraints. Have a willingness to develop into being fully conversant with the relevant legislation.
There will be a requirement to work to tight timescales and provide first class customer service at all stages of the project; therefore, the ability to thrive under pressure is essential. It is also important that you have an eye on long term development and can identify and implement innovative and effective business improvements. As well as strong negotiation and influencing skills, excellent written and oral communication, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of surveying, valuation and drawings. Being a member of the RICS would be advantageous.
