About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
Reporting to a Lead Land Manager, you will be involved in the successful delivery of land access rights, specifically maintaining and securing access, land and property rights for SHE Transmission projects. You will also assess claims for compensation and be involved in aspects of injurious affection.
You will regularly work as part of a project team and liaise closely with your team members over a range of disciplines as well as liaising with contractors and landowners to ensure all necessary land rights are acquired to deliver electricity transmission projects within the required timescales to minimise business risk.
Stakeholder engagement is an important element of this role, and you will have a wide array of stakeholders, both internal and external, to develop and maintain positive working relationships with; these stakeholders include landowners, tenants, their agents and relevant bodies such as the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit, Scottish Land & Estates, the National Farmers Union for Scotland, Forestry Commission Scotland and The Crown Estate.
What do I need?
With a good understanding of landownership systems in Scotland and a working knowledge of land and property rights, including in depth knowledge of wayleaves and servitudes, you should be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline. You'll have a working knowledge of compulsory purchase and compensation systems and a basic knowledge of energy networks and their structure. Membership of Rural Professional Group of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is preferred but not necessarily required.
You'll demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external and possess outstanding customer relationship skills, and a commitment to providing a high level service at all times. With strong organisational skills and an ability to work to deadlines, you'll have a high regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do.
