What is the Role?
The Junior Project Manager shall be responsible for the administration and organisation of many project activities, from the simple to the more complex. Junior Project Manager responsibilities include working closely with the Project Managers to prepare comprehensive action plans. Ordering and management of third-party telecoms services and associated cross-connects/on-net connectivity shall form a significant part of the role, however the Junior Project Manager shall also perform various project coordination tasks, like schedule and risk management, along with administrative duties, like maintaining project documentation and handling financial queries.
What do I need?
To succeed in this role, you should ideally have experience of ordering and managing the delivery of Ethernet and optical services from telecoms service providers, or knowledge of these products and their use. Excellent time management and communication skills are a must as you'll collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver results to deadlines. Finance acumen is essential to the role to provide budget & procurement assistance to the project management team.
Ultimately, the Junior Project Managers duties are to ensure that activities assigned to them by the Project Team are completed on time, within budget and meet high quality standards.
Assist the delivery of large capital/customer projects within the BAU Projects and Major Programmes team in accordance with company procedures, industry regulations, and best practice methodologies. Primary duties shall include managing the delivery of Service Provider services, delivery of on-net services projects, arranging site access both via SSE ET internal TOA process and through liaising with 3rd party Data Centres, Exchanges and Customer sites, ordering of equipment, maintenance of project documentation, creation and distribution of Customer Handover packs and general proactive support of the Programme Team.
Build and manage strong relationships with customers both pre and post orders, obtaining an understanding of their needs, sharing experiences, providing guidance, delivering regular project updates, and supporting the acceptance process, in order to better resolve obstacles/issues and ensure that customer expectations are met or exceeded throughout the project delivery.
The Junior Project Manager position is a non-technical role, however experience and knowledge of the Telecoms Industry delivery process is essential, as is a expertise in the telecommunications service delivery industry by way of 3rd party supplier management, order journey and service provider provisioning portals.
Provide regular, accurate reporting, as required, so that Project and Programme Management have access to the level of information they need about the status of project and financial delivery.
Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information. Attend internal and customer facing meetings, producing minutes as/when required. Analyse risks and opportunities. Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise. Work with the Project Manager to eliminate blockers. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports. Perform as a vital member of the Programme Team, supporting the Programme, the Project Workstreams, the Project Team and the customer with the standards and excellence expected of the SSE ET Major Programmes team.
Strong Knowledge of and commitment to the Company's overall aims and objectives.
Knowledge of all relevant SSE processes and procedures and of telecommunications infrastructure supplied and maintained by SSEET.
Previous experience of autonomously managing projects in the telecoms industry with APM PFQ and/or PRINCE2 Foundation level accreditations being desirable.
Knowledge of BT and other Telecoms providers provisioning and ordering process for Ethernet, optical and cabling solutions.
Ability to interpret designs, schedules and step-by-step action plans and able to assist with project planning via MSP/Visio/project specific applications.
Assist with writing/presentation highlight reports internally and to commercial customers.
Strong written and verbal communications skills, Proactive and self-motivated to drive activities to successful completion and able to build and manage stakeholder relationships.
Strong customer service ethic and skills with ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
Analytical problem-solving skills and able to stay calm under pressurised conditions.
