About the Department
SSE Telecoms own and operate one of the largest telecoms and data centre networks in the UK. We operate a 13,700km private telecoms network and an estate of 17 data centres that span the UK, specialising in the provision of high performance Ethernet, optical networking and co-location services for customers whose businesses depend upon the availability and performance of cloud, IT and communication assets.
SSE Enterprise Telecoms is a growing dynamic Telecommunications business with significant investment to double the size of the business within the next 4 years as part of a 5 year strategy plan. Technology is changing and converging and we are embracing and implementing change to stay inline and/or ahead of the current market and this is an opportunity to be involved with growing and shaping a business at the forefront of technology.
What is the Role
You will work as part of a team and have responsibility for the co-ordination and design of the DCN IP platform, which manages hundreds of network devices across the optical transmission and MPLS network estates and associated vendors. You will be the design authority when interacting with other parts of the business, developing relationships with the key suppliers and maximising value for the business. Capacity planning of the networks is also a key element of the role along with the business case creation and design justification.
In addition, you will support and provide designs and solutions to fulfil current and future demands for DCN/IP infrastructure for growth, sales support and strategic driven projects. You will manage the effective delivery of detailed design workflow from job initiation through to implementation, along with the creation and maintenance of key network records. Also, you will be responsible for financial and budget requirements and production of weekly reports.
What do I need?
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within a service provider or telecoms environment with in-depth knowledge of IP networks. Design experience of Cisco IP LAN switching technologies is essential (e.g. Interfaces, VLAN and STP). Within IP WAN, you will have a good technical understanding of BGP and OSPF protocols and how to plan, design and integrate these across networks. Technical certifications such as Cisco CCNA underpinning this applicable knowledge is desirable. You should demonstrate a good working knowledge of other telecommunications technologies, primarily MPLS and optical fibre transmission systems.
You will be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio and Excel and have experience of design within a telecommunications environment. Network operations experience is desirable.
We are looking for candidates that can display a high level of confidence, be able to demonstrate initiative and will have the ability to use flexible working to ensure we are delivering projects to time and budget. If you are self-motivated with good working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, have a full driving licence and can demonstrate a strong focus on personal and corporate safety, then we want to hear from you.
