What is the Role?
SSE Renewables Hydro operates and maintains over 1000MW of Hydro Generation and associated infrastructure, with our Operations and Maintenance Teams being responsible for the operation and maintenance of our Hydro Generation assets.
The multi-disciplined team in the Breadalbane Section is responsible for the day to day operation, maintenance and repair of our Hydro Generation plant to ensure it is kept in a safe and efficient state. As Hydro Operations Team Leader, you'll be responsible for the day to day management and supervision of a multi-disciplined team of crafts persons and semi-skilled staff who perform the operations and maintenance on the Hydro Power Stations and associated water catchment areas within the geographic area.
Some of your main accountabilities will include;
- Looking after the safety of the general public, environment, staff and contractors. Ensuring plant within the section is in a safe and efficient state.
- Co-ordinate and plan the section workload, utilising a computer based maintenance system, to deliver the expected high standards of plant performance, availability and reliability.
- Ensuring all technical, legislative; environment and safety standards are met.
- Managing packages of work.
- Carrying out performance management.
What do I need?
We are looking for someone who has supervisory or managerial experience, with an electrical or mechanical background, in conjunction with a recognised apprenticeship.
Ideally have extensive experience working on Hydro Generation or similar heavy rotating plant. You should also either hold, or be willing to study towards, an engineering based HNC or equivalent.
Excellent communication, analytical and technical skills will be essential allowing you to liaise directly with clients, management, contractors and other staff on a daily basis, ensuring all work is undertaken to the company's requirements and safety standards. You will be a highly motivated, flexible, safety conscious person who has the ability to service the needs of the company, manage emergent work and lead the team safely and efficiently.
As part of this role, you'll also undertake authorisation training to perform HV switching, plant operations and isolations, plus authorised person duties up to Auxiliary Plant Authorisation under the Generation System Safety Rules.
Progression to SSE Grade 7 is possible by completing the necessary training and assessment process, followed by carrying out the duties and responsibilities of AP1/CPS/CPO under the Generation System Safety Rules.
A full, valid driving licence is essential for this role, and applicants should ideally reside, or be prepared to relocate to within 30 miles of Killin.
