About the Department
At SSE, Safety is our number one value. We live by the mantra if its not safe, we don't do it and this is the key objective of our Safety team. Whether it be our own people, or a focus on our customers and communities, our SHE teams are responsible for ensuring we minimise risk and get everyone safely at the end of the working day.
What is the Role
As a leading generator of renewable energy in Great Britain and Ireland, including wind (onshore and offshore) and hydro generation, we are looking for a highly-motivated SHE Advisor to join our SSE Renewables Hydro Operations team.
You'll be responsible for providing project management support, advice and guidance on all aspects of compliance with the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements across the SSE Renewables Hydro Business. You'll also be responsible for supporting the Hydro business to continually improve SHE performance in accordance with SSE standards and statutory responsibilities.
By working in collaboration with the different business teams on risk assessments, risk controls and investigations, you'll support the drive for continued excellence in SHE performance. Additionally, you'll support and devise training resources in a range of areas including but not limited to: Health risk management with a focus on COSHH, PPE, noise and hand arm vibration; Human factors and ergonomics; Machinery safety; CDM.
What do I need
You'll have a safety qualification and/or a qualification in a mechanical, civil or electrical engineering discipline, both at level 3 or higher. This will ideally include membership of an associated professional body, e.g. IOSH, BOHS, REHIS, ICE etc.
Experience in the Hydro Generation and/or Water industry is desirable. However, experience gained in a high-hazard, heavily-regulated industry e.g. petrochemical, pharmaceutical or other renewables business may provide the transferable knowledge and skills we are looking for.
You'll also demonstrate the ability to:
- Work proactively on your own initiative and autonomously; committed to meeting objectives
- Engage, influence and build relationships at all levels within the business
- Communicate excellently, both in writing and verbally
- Use Microsoft Office effectively, in particular: Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Analyse statistics
- Present to a high standard
Due to the level of UK travel required, predominantly in Scotland, a full driving license is essential.
Please be aware if you are successful, you'll be required to complete our pre-employment screening process before joining SSE.
