SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.
What is the Role?
SSE is a FTSE 100 Company and one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK, with around 10 million customers across our various brands. We operate the largest Street Lighting Contracting business in the UK, maintaining in excess of 1 million lighting units and associated cable works for various clients including Councils, Developers and the Highway Authority Motorway and Trunk Road works.
Due to an increase in workload we currently have a fantastic new opportunity for a HIAB Installation Operative to join the team based in Wales.
The HIAB Installation Operative will work as part of a team undertaking the installation, maintenance and routine work for a full range of highway lighting apparatus including street lighting columns, lanterns, brackets, poles and signs. This is a physically demanding role which will involve you working outdoors and on public highways, you will also hold responsibility for operating mobile elevated works.
What do I need?
The HIAB Installation Operative must be able to drive over 3.5 tonne vehicles and an HGV licence is preferred as use of a HIAB will be involved.
Previous experience of the Street Lighting industry - operating machinery, working on the highway as well as a full understanding of utility drawings and the dangers of damaging underground services is essential.
A Jointers or Jointers mate qualification under NERS is also beneficial. Safety is our number one priority and you must be confident to act on your own initiative in all situations. Candidates with CAT and Genny operation training or experience of working in the vicinity of electrical services G39 regs are preferred.
The ideal candidate should be flexible as you may be required to form part of a call out rota to attend to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
To be successful in this role, you will be an excellent team player and have the confidence to work individually. You should have excellent communication and organisational skills and a good knowledge of the local road network and layout would be advantageous.
