About the Department
SSE Enterprise comprises three companies: Contracting, Telecoms and Distributed Energy. Distributed Energy offers a full range of services that contribute to the development of smart cities and smart places, in both public and private sectors. We finance, own, operate and maintain a broad portfolio, from electrical vehicle infrastructure, to distributed energy systems including renewable and low-carbon generation, energy storage and heat networks as well as building owning and adopting private HV networks. This involves providing customers with energy optimisation solutions through intelligent systems and offering platforms and connectivity to enable smart energy infrastructure and demand management services.
The Electrical Networks Business is the part of Distributed Energy responsible for the lifetime management of its private electrical networks. We finance, own, operate and maintain these assets, supplying electricity to commercial, industrial and residential customers. We pride ourselves in being market leading in our service to customers and in the operational performance and asset management of the networks.
What is the Role
Reporting to the Director of Asset Management and a key member of their senior management team, the Head of Networks is responsible for the leadership and operational management of a diverse team located across the UK.
The Network businesses will be new to SSE Distributed Energy and will own, operate and maintain electricity infrastructure across Great Britain and Ireland. Networks will be the cornerstone to the aggressive growth of the SSE Distributed Energy business as such, the Head of Networks will have a key role in the set-up and management of this businesses. They will be responsible for all aspects of the business including: setting the standards and procedures for new networks and network adoptions, specifying and implementing new systems processes for the business, and negotiation contractual relationships and managing the customer relationship.
The Head of Networks will be a member of the core asset management team and will contribute to wider business strategy and development. They will also be accountable for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the networks.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role you will have demonstrable experience within the energy industry and particularly within electrical networks for lifetime asset management and ideally working within a regulatory framework.
You will be able to bring a balance of strong technical background within electrical networks, strong commercial competence to be innovative at taking opportunities, however you must also have a customer centred approach.
A solid commercial understanding of how electrical networks creates value and experience in recognising and taking opportunities to add greater value to the business. You will understand financial forecasting/budgeting and analysis and the ability to provide business cases based on data-driven analysis and decision-making is a key part of this role.
A degree in engineering, scientific, commercial or similar with extensive experience in a similar position; you will be a proven leader with experience of driving high performance and have knowledge of lifetime asset management planning ideally including ISO 55001.
As a natural leader of people, you will have the ability to build strong teams and motivate them to excel and bring energy in driving results through outcome-focused performance. You will also need excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
