What is the Role

As Group IT PMO Manager, you'll sit within the Programme Management Group (PMG), which is the 'engine room' of the Office of the CIO in SSE IT. Our PMG team is about 100 people strong and consists of the IT Portfolio Office, responsible for the governance, control and assurance of SSE's overall IT Project Portfolio (c.£130m) as well having specific delivery responsibility for the Group IT portfolio of projects (c.£20m). These are critical in supporting our IT Strategy and in the successful management and delivery of our SSE IT Programme and Project portfolio commitments.

This IT PMO Manager role forms part of the PMG Leadership team and is a critical role in the management, control and quality of the programme and project delivery performance across the IT Group.

You'll define, set-up and drive the programme PMO (Portfolio, Programme or Project) standards and related functions including governance, planning, reporting, financial management, change control, risk management, project initiation, document management, resource demand management and key performance indicators. Key to your success in the role will be your ability to identify key programme stakeholders and formalise and maintain excellent relationships. In this high-profile position, you'll also provide executive reporting at governance meetings and to key stakeholders.

What do I need?

As IT PMO Manager, you'll have significant Programme and Project Management (PM) experience, using both waterfall and agile delivery approaches, of delivering multiple engagements with a value in excess of £1m, as well as experience of managing multiple parties including Senior PMs, 3rd party independents, large external delivery partners and large vendors on high profile and technologically innovative enterprise solutions. Some knowledge of LCP major projects processes would be beneficial.

With significant experience of managing a PMO in a high-profile organisation, you'll have the ability to effectively and accurately track several projects simultaneously whilst operating in a highly complex environment. You will ideally hold a formal accreditation to practitioner level (MSP, Prince II, PMP or equivalent).

You should have extensive experience of developing and implementing processes, procedures and delivering projects, with a good working knowledge of all key project processes. You will possess strong technical knowledge encompassing processes, tools and techniques. With excellent stakeholder management, you should be able to respond to changing priorities and tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

Highly organised in your approach your communication and interpersonal skills, will be of an excellent standard.

Your background as an IT Leader in a PMO environment is, of course, fundamental to this role. You'll be able to demonstrate your ability to manage large teams across multiple sites, still creating a sense of teamwork
