Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
To ensure the continued success of the business, we have an exciting opportunity for a Field Unit Engineer within our Strategic Investment Team. Working across the Wessex Region, based at either New Forest or Poole offices, youll be helping to deliver 132kV maintenance and / or a wide range of construction projects. The team specialises in the design, construction and maintenance of electrical projects on the 132kV, 33kV and 11kV distribution networks. There are multiple projects underway to maintain, replace and upgrade the electricity network including sub-stations, over-head lines and underground cables. This investment exceeds £70m per annum and youll play a pivotal role in delivering these goals.
The role will incorporate working on plant up to and including 132kV and will include operational and safety duties ensuring plant and apparatus are installed and maintained in accordance with SSEN standards. There will be component of project delivery/management including the use of reporting systems.
What Do I Need?
To be successful in this role, you'll be qualified to at least HNC level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally electrical. Further to this, SAP qualification (or working towards this) at 132kV would be highly advantageous; as would a qualification in safety. Given the technical nature of the role, it is essential that you have demonstrable experience in a similar role, performing duties and responsibilities as identified above. You must be self-disciplined with excellent organisational skills, capable of working on your own initiative and to deadlines within a high-pressure environment.
