About the Department
SSE Enterprise comprises four companies: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms and Utilities. SSE Enterprise Utilities is the Distributed Energy business of SSE plc.
Distributed Energy offers a full range of services which contribute to the development of smart cities and smart places, in both public and private sectors. We finance, own, operate and maintain a broad portfolio, from electrical vehicle (EV) infrastructure, to distributed energy systems including renewable and low-carbon generation, energy storage and heat networks as well as building owning and adopting private HV networks. Were also proud to be at the forefront of using technology to help enable a low-carbon world. This involves providing customers with energy optimisation solutions through intelligent systems and offering platforms and connectivity to enable smart energy infrastructure and demand management services.
The SSE EV Services team is currently expanding our portfolio of services and solutions by moving into the Smart Cities and Electric Vehicle space. We are targeting rapid growth in this part of the business and beginning a transformation process, focusing on local, smart energy and Infrastructure solutions in the Bus, Fleet, Taxi and Charge Hub space.
Working for the Sector Director Electric Vehicles; the Project Development Manager is an exciting role with a genuine opportunity to position SSE as a provider of choice in EV, Smart Cities and Places.
You will be responsible for shaping propositions and to help secure contracts and partnerships with public and private sector organisations across the UK. The role will involve bringing together areas of different expertise and working with internal stakeholders, experts and external partners to ensure the proposition is developed in line with our customers needs and our strategy.
The role will develop a wide and close network of client and other stakeholder relationships to ensure awareness and influence on market and to continuously adapt propositions to suit both. The role will be the main client interface through the proposition/bid phase leading contract negotiations to contract close and procurement. You will manage supporting teams to ensure that propositions/bids are delivered on time and positions taken during negotiation are signed off by the business. You will be responsible for achieving internal approvals in line with SSE and business governance processes and deliver a sales target of completed contracts per year.
Skills and Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of how EV/Smart Cities platforms are built and operate combined with knowledge of a range of commercial structures as they apply to distributed energy.
We are looking for a highly connected individual who can build and manage diverse relationships with stakeholders further advancing SSE's agenda.
Prior involvement in leading and managing project teams across a range of disciplines and demonstrable experience in bringing together and managing a large, complex proposition that sits across multiple areas of expertise (Bus and Fleet Sector knowledge and relationships advantageous along with infrastructure understanding).
You should have a strong understanding of EU and UK policy frameworks as they apply to heat, energy, carbon and construction.
Ideally you will have experience of building and scoping projects within a Distributed Energy system (local energy systems) with resource planning knowledge across a complex project to fully understand potential cost of project. Therefore, commercial understanding and opportunity (and risk) associated combined with the ability to interpret, analyse and disseminate complex, sensitive information is key to this position.
You should have strong communication skills that demonstrate your passion and commitment while inspiring your colleagues. Previous experience of working across a range of stakeholder groups and levels of seniority is highly desirable.
