About the Department
SSE Renewables is the UK and Irelands leading renewable energy company. Our aim is to be the largest and most efficient developer of onshore and offshore wind in the UK and Ireland. We drive new growth by identifying, developing, building and operating high quality assets in GB, Ireland and internationally. In order to contribute to a low carbon future, we have committed to treble our current Renewables output by 2030.
What is the Role
As an Estates Manager you will be directly involved in the development and construction of projects that will expand this portfolio of assets. You will do this by ensuring all types of legal land rights required for the successful delivery of a variety of renewable energy projects are negotiated, secured and then managed throughout project development and construction phases. To achieve this, you will be required to devise, implement and manage project specific land assembly strategies. These will include budget forecasts based on accepted land valuation principles and ensure the rights being secured meet the technical specifications / engineering requirements of the project, are aligned with the planning consent / environmental constraints and can be delivered within a defined project programme.
What do I need?
You will be qualified or be working towards SCSI or MRICS membership or hold another land related qualification/s or have relevant experience in the electricity / renewables industry.
Having excellent interpersonal skills and being experienced in building, maintaining, and leveraging relationships built on trust with internal project and all relevant 3rd party stakeholders will be key. It will be necessary to be commercially astute, a strong negotiator, with a solid understanding of valuation principles for the purchase and lease of land and of levels and methods of assessing compensation for land use losses. A good understanding of the electricity / renewables industry, the development / planning processes and associated legislation would be advantageous. You will have established knowledge of rural land matters including agricultural practices, forestry, environmental legislation and statutory environmental constraints.
An important part of the role is to identify project specific land risks and suggest mitigation to ensure potential land issues do not cause any delay to development or construction project programmes. You will be working within teams with a diverse skill set and be expected to provide first class professional service and advice to the project team and the wider business unit on a variety of land related subjects.
You will have an appreciation of the contractual relationships between parties and the ability to manage external professionals by demonstrating an excellent understanding of various mechanisms to legally secure rights to land. Attention to detail and the ability to deliver a high standard of written work and record keeping is essential.
You will be expected to meet landowners and or their agents on site in locations throughout Ireland North and South and a full driving license and ability to work away from the office base, with occasional overnight stay is essential.
